book #10 brown girl dreaming

book #10 has been crossed off the list. yesterday i finished up brown girl dreaming.

in brown girl dreaming,  jacqueline woodson, tells her own story about growing up. the book feels more like a book of poems that tell her story rather than a chapter book. this book was such an easy read. i loved it reading about jacqueline's time with her grandparents down south. the time she spent barefoot in the garden with her grandfather. the time she spent traveling with her grandmother as a jehovah witness.

right before jacqueline was ready to start school, she and her brother and sister joined their mother and baby brother in NYC. jacqueline had to learn about an entirely different world. a world where she could no longer run outdoors and play until dark. one where she had to wear shoes all the time.

i loved this book. i hope you do too!
